The average cost of finishing a basement in the Atlanta area typically ranges from $25,000 to $45,000 for a basic project. What’s the difference between remodeling, restoration and renovation?
Remodeling, renovation, and restoration are terms often used in the context of improving or updating buildings or structures, but they refer to distinct processes with different objectives:
Remodeling:
Remodeling involves making significant changes to the structure, layout, or design of a building. It usually entails altering the appearance, functionality, or style of a space to better suit the needs or preferences of the occupants. This could include adding new rooms, knocking down walls to create open spaces, updating fixtures and finishes, or completely reconfiguring the layout. Remodeling projects often involve extensive construction work and may require architectural or design expertise. The goal of remodeling is typically to modernize or personalize a space according to the owner's vision.
Renovation:
Renovation involves restoring or repairing an existing structure to improve its overall condition, functionality, or aesthetic appeal. Unlike remodeling, renovation typically focuses on making repairs, upgrades, or cosmetic enhancements to an existing space without fundamentally altering its layout or structure. Renovation projects may include tasks such as repairing damaged components, replacing outdated fixtures, repainting walls, refinishing floors, or updating appliances. The aim of renovation is to revitalize or refresh a property, often to increase its market value, improve energy efficiency, or simply enhance its appearance.
Restoration:
Restoration involves returning a building or structure to its original or historically accurate condition. It typically involves extensive research, careful documentation, and meticulous craftsmanship to preserve the architectural integrity and historical significance of the property. Restoration projects aim to recreate the original appearance, materials, and craftsmanship of a building, often focusing on preserving historical features, such as ornate moldings, original woodwork, or period-specific details. Restoration efforts may also include repairing damage caused by age, neglect, or natural disasters while maintaining the building's historical authenticity. The goal of restoration is to honor and preserve the cultural heritage and architectural legacy of a property for future generations.
In summary, while remodeling involves making significant changes to the layout or design of a building, renovation focuses on repairing or updating an existing space, and restoration aims to preserve and revive the original character and historical significance of a property. Each process serves different purposes and requires distinct approaches, expertise, and resources. We have the ability to do all of these

How long have you been in the remodeling business?
My father was a builder (or rather a re-builder). As early as I can remember, we were always working, fixing up older homes. My formal education was at DePaul university as a piano major. This may not seem relevant to the building trades, but it taught me how to think and see subtle details that make all the difference. The famous philosopher Goethe once commented that architecture is "frozen music". I embraced that and have spent nearly 40 years adding this type of value in the work that I do, as much as is practical.
What’s the difference between a home renovation and a home remodel?
